I have a 58 plate scirocco and have lost a key.

Any one have any recommendations of where to get it replaced. I have been told that VW will charge about £200. As it's just for a spare key, would like to try and a get something a bit cheaper.

Anyone used timpsons or similar.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

eBay?

Blank fob and blade, get somewhere like Timpsons to cut & copy the info from your working one. They've done it for me before.

Not that easy as do they not need to extract the immobiliser codes from them vw ecu ?

Copied everything for me.

Bought a complete blank/virgin key fob from eBay.

Timpsons copied the blade, read the details from my old key, transferred them onto new and then even paired them to the car for me,

They wont do it on a VAG car of that year. The key needs to be part coded and the SKC is also needed and they must be programmed via OBD, they cannot be copied/cloned

Try Panick keys in your area

Audi A6s of around this period are main dealer only - if you can find a reputable auto locksmith locally they will very quickly tell you if it's possible or not. Most will want to use a new key blank (as it'll have a virgin immo chip in it for programming) rather than an ebay special.

I needed a new emergency spare for ours and the main dealer wasn't much more expensive than any other options, plus they did the coding to remove the lost key from the ECU

Thanks for the replies.

I've been to vw today. £200 all in.

I've also been into timpsons and they are £141. They use the genuine keys, showed me and it looks exactly the same with all the codes. They apparently order them from the same suppliers.

Does £141 sound quite reasonable based on what others have had? I could just get a standard keys which will manually unlock and start the car for £95.

Expensive little things !!!

Would the dealer be removing the lost key from your ecu? How about timsons?

I'd be very surprised if Timpsons have the necessary technology to extract the PINCODE and Component Security which are both needed to program your keys or any 2008 model onward VAG cars, as VAG will not give these out, even to the owner. Most "Advanced" Auto locksmiths will be able to do it and they will also delete any keys which aren't present

Has anything moved on with this tech? I have a 2011 VW Golf with a single key.

I see blank fobs on Ebay etc for under £10.

Do they count as ' a 2nd key' for online car sales sites?

Still very much the same, others can get software to copy a key and delete lost keys. I do not know though if they would use keys that you buy on ebay etc as they may want to sell you their own blank keys.

I have rather stupidly lost the spare key to my wife's 2017 Touareg and spoken to a couple of auto-locksmiths who've said they can't replace it without an original replacement fob from the dealer. They can reprogram it but the fob needs to come from VW.

VW dealer wants £529 for the replacement including the reprogram!!

I believe its referred to as a 7P type fob.

Unless anyone has any more advice, from the previous replies I assume they have me by the nuts?!
