Anyone know when a cambelt should be changed on a 2001 225 TT?

80k officially. With the tension pulley and bits. Some reckon you ought to do the water pump at the same time as the vanes are weak plastic and pumps break quite often. (I'm not 100% whether this is true.)

Our TT has done 60k now, and I plan to change the cambelt at the next service which will be 65-67k for us.

I suggest doing it sooner than the recommended 80k. How soon is up to you.

Audi are changing their literature to 60k miles. I would also second doing the water pump as it should only cost the cost of the part if done with the timing belt.

(my water pump went a fortnight after i had the timing belt done)

Thanks guys,
the cambelt on my brothers TT went a couple of days ago and his engine is lunched. The same Dealer that failed to change the cambelt at the 80K (after saying they would)are quoting £7500 for a rebuild.

I wonder if he has a case for making them pay?

After agreeing to have it done at the service they changed their minds on the actual day the car was in, saying it could wait until 115K.

My brother doesn't know anything about cars so trusted their judgement.

I've also posted another question, how much should he expect to pay for a recon engine - he's been quoted £2500 from a bloke in wales who will collect from london for free.

I reckon this sounds suspiciously cheap. Does anyone have any experience about this?
Thanks in advance.
Matt

Re Cam belt failier - I had a cam chain go on an A4 1.8 due to a missed recall (despite full serice history), Audi paid the lot - recovery, hire car, New head, fitting etc. The car had done 92K, If the if its an official dealer kick up stink, even ask for another dealer to do the work- go to Audi direct they take a very dim view of poor service.
