Do engine tuning chips add real extra torque at normal driving rpm, for a naturally aspirated engine? And so, would their addition make much difference in REAL world driving?

I was wondering about taking my R32 up a tad to 265 AMD ponies for about 500 quid. However, I don't want to end up with a peaky engine.

Anyone had one fitted and wished they hadn't bothered?

Depends on the mapping, although you won't get much. On a 2.0 ABF - plenty of owners report punchier midrange and better driveability.

Have a look on ukmkivs.net I'm sure there will be plenty of power/torque plots you can compare.

The only way youll get extra torque and lots of it is to put more air thru the engine.
In a word: Turbo. Or in another :supercharger.Or yet another No2

In my experience, chipping on a n/a engine acheives very little as its all usually "in your mind" or seat of the old pants.
The only time youll feel anything is when you extract your wallet from your pocket to find it a whole lot lighter....

On the other hand if you want to get more air thru it without a turbo, then the usual things apply; airflow testing and head improvements, air filter, exhaust etc. hth

Thanks, I thought as much. I'm not prepared to waste more than £500 on it as I'm only planning on keeping it a year or so.

Drop a thread onto www.tyresmoke.net.

Plenty of guys there with R32s a few getting close to 300BHP with , I would assume, similar torque.
