I have a Mk2 Scirocco that I am thinking of selling. As they're a bit rare now I'd appreciate some thoughts on a possible value.

It is a 1986 C reg 1.8i in rare Mars Red. There are 2 previous keepers and I have had it for 5 years now. The mileage is 73,000. There is FVWSH for the first 10 years (it had only done 19,000 miles on it's 10th birthday). I have all the MOT's from approx 1990.

In the last 18 months it has had: Full VW exhaust system (rear silcencer is MK2 Golf 16v twin pipe), new fuel lines, both fuel pumps, stainless filler neck, recon tank, injectors, metering unit, radiator, clutch, oil cooler, waxstat for oil cooler, fron brakes (256mm front discs using Audi calipers), master cylinder, braided hoses, MFA stalk, various water hoses, water pump, rear wheel bearings, ball joints, new Boge Turbo Gas shocks with new standard VW springs, top mounts, low coolant level switch.

In the last six months it's had a new battery, been treated to a brand new set of Golf G60 15" steel wheels with brand new Firestone V rated tyres and an Alpine radio with 6 disc changer in the glovebox, new VW set of rubber mats.

It's such an honest original car. The paintwork is immaculate, everything works on one key, it's got perfect GT2 seats which I put new bolsters into, all of the dashboard lights up correctly at night. Everything works.

I've done all the servicing and repairs myself, it gets a VW filter and Quantum semi synthetic every 5k miles. It gets Bosch super 4's and an air filter every 3rd service. Anything that has ever needed doing has been done. The only parts I have not touched whilst I've had it are the rear brakes. The anit freeze, oil and brake fluid are all spotless.

What sort of money is it worth then? (no offence will be taken!) I would be prepared to sell it to someone who would look after it as much as me but I'm not going to give it away as I'd rather have it as a 2nd car than take peanuts. I just don't want to see it not getting used.

Not a lot I'm afraid.

Mk2 Sciroccos appear to be deeply unfashionable.

Even with that mileage/history going to be £800, £1000 at VERY most I would say...

I have bought in the last few years
Very good GT for £400 (and paid way too much)
Reasonable GT for £150
Good roadworthy carb'ed Scala for £100
Very good injection Scala for £250

Good condition Storm models don't usually fetch over £1000 (and they sound similar to yours but with leccy bits and leather)

Try http://groups.msn.com/sciroccoworld and http://norice.altrezia.com for more help and classifieds. Also a quick look on Ebay would give a rough guide.

Though Roccos aren't worth much, it sounds a good 'un and would sell quickly to an enthusiast at the right price IYSWIM.

Cheers, Phil

Yeh not a great deal im afraid, I'd aim for £500 ish in your hand to be fair.

You may indeed get more tho to the right person.

I might have a mate after one if you do want to sell tho.

Do what a lot of others do, advertise in Performance VW / The Golf (free ads still?) for a grossly overinflated price and wait for somebody to bite.

Yep I think you've all told me what I already knew - it's not worth a lot and certainly not what I've spent but then you never get your money back I suppose.

Ideally I'd love to get £1,250 but would consider £1,000. If all I could get was a few hundred considering that it's not going to need much work in the near future I'm much better off keeping it as a second car.

I think they're still at the stage where there's still enough about for people to consider them old bangers. There needs to be a cull of about 2,000 cars then they'll be a bit more scarce and people may appreciate them a little more.
