Hi

My car: 2014 A4 Allroad 2.0TDI 177ps 7spd S-tronic

Anyone else experience what I can only describe as dangerously low levels of performance when pulling away from very low speed or after having come to a stop eg roundabout or junction?!?!

I live in greater london, there is no such thing as a good sized or large gap in traffic to saunter out to like a sunday driver. I'm not even trying to drive like a wally, I just want, expect and need the car to respond promptly when i want it to.

Regardless of in sport or regular shift, I plant my foot and the car just trundles out of junctions until about 2kRPM+ then its the complete opposite you actually have too much power going down.

I find myself trying to come to a complete halt so the box selects 1st to at least try get the best out the car.

Ive looked in the MMI settings, no throttle response to alter etc.

Its just as bad at a slow rolling pull away when box selects 2nd then quickly shifts into 3rd its a total joke.

Anyone experience similar?

If you throw it in manual and pull away in first is it any different/better?

Nope, still a sack of st. Just been out and tried it repeatedly up and down my road.. No proper poke until at least 2k rpm

Perhaps this is just a diesel thing... but to me this sucks big time and cant be normal to mash the peddle and get nowt for at least 2/2.5 seconds....

Had an 02 reg A6 Allroad 2.7 v6 Twin turbo before, that was like ste off the proverbial shovel off the lights.

If I just want to trundle off the line theres no problems, a nice relaxing pace...

Good idea, might just do that.

Really had to tell from your description as I'm sensing a little bit of frustration in the way you describe it (which is understandable/reasonable of course).

If you do ever find yourself in my neck of the woods I'd have no issue in driving it for a moment to offer an opinion. If not there's got to be someone around here near you with a similar car.

The 2.0 TDI has a fairly narrow power band and with all the quattro/S-Tronic stuff behind it is stifled a little further. Late S-Tronics are definitely mapped differently to early ones and seem to be quite heavily biased to smoothness. If you drive a late old model A3 S-Tronic and a new one back to back you'd swear the new one was multitronic. I did!

Thanks for reply. Yes totally annoyed with it atm. Feels like a Freitag afternoon car if i'm totally honest.

I've also a undiagnosed random knocking sound from under the chassis when on rough roads. 3 Times into Audi, every time "sorry can't find your fault" and the standard headlights are totally useless. Sadly dealer didnt spec Xenons as was a showroom car.

I know this is an old post but came across it when looking for similar. I have a 2016 A4 Quattro TDI Automatic with exactly these symptoms. I wholeheartedly agree these are dangerous and nothing to do with driving style - I regularly have to turn right out of my road into busy traffic and do so with my heart in my mouth.

Just been in contact with Audi who want £222 just to investigate what looks to me like a design flaw as I read this and other posts. Would have thought Audi would have developed a fix by now - it's probably down to electronics but what do I know; I'm just a driver who loves his Audi apart from this one issue.

Have told Audi I shall not be renewing although I'm now in the market. Shame for them and me.

Now to find my local Mercedes and BMW dealer...

Appreciate you don't want to spend money on a car you're selling, but would any of the aftermarket pedal boxes solve this problem?

I fitted one to my old Golf R DSG so you can dial in/out the throttle response to your liking, much improves the standard setting, especially in driving situations like you describe.
