Today I like to indroduce the new Beetle Pick Up called "Cargo" to this forum and I'm pretty sure, some of you will like it.

Please have a look on the following website and click through ALL given menues - you will find a lot of infos about the idea, the constructions.....

If you need some additional great pictures, don't hesitate to send me an email.

There is just one PROTOTYPE built at the moment but there are 16 cars preordered and under construction now. I assume, there will be a lot more to see in the future.

And here is the website:

Have fun with it.

Cool... I was thinking the other day how daft VW were not to have a Caddy type pick-up based on the current Golf, and then along comes this.

Hi

good to see that you like it. Myself I totally fascinated about this car and will order one for early 2006

The history of the pickup projekt:

April 2002
Idea of the Pickup-projekt was born by question “Why isn´t such a practical vehicle like the pickup present on the European Roads?” There are two anwers to this question:

Pickups which offer the comfort of a sedan are pickups for the US-market because they have for the European circumstances the deficit that they are too big.
· Pickups which are offered by the Europeanmanufacturer orient to workmen. They are pure sloggers and with this image the people see them. They are not “presentable”.

In style of the success of the SUVs where the off-roader was transfigured for the European-market. This should also be possible for Pickups. The high use for hobby, free time and job should be helpful.
The next step was the question “Which basic-vehicle should be taken for the project?“.

For putting the the idea of building a cool vehicle into practise only a vihicle with a certain character was possible. Through the success of the New Beetle in America and America as the epitome of pickup it was most attractive to put it into practise with the New Beetle.

On the basis of a pencil-outline it exposed fast that the proportions of the New Beetle are suitable to rebuild it into a pickup. On the basis of a pencil-outline it exposed fast that the proportions of the New Beetle are suitable to rebuild it into a pickup. The pencil-outlines were improved and the design was created..

May 2002
Firmly convinced that we will develope a car from the outlines we got in thouch with VW.

June - July 2002
For put the finishing thouches a design-draft was built a 1:10 model.

February 2003
The big response to the model was the clincher to start the project. It was our aim to realize a complete vehicle within a year which repose could be tested on the market. If there was postive response a mini-series should be build. With the realization of this project a another calling card for the pro4D (Detect, Design, Develop, proDuction) as a multi-functional engineering office should be given.

March 2003
The arrangement of the project-team through the inclusion of two craftsmen. In support of the conversion of the design-model mr Düwel joined the team. He had a lot of expirience with modeling of 1:1 models and he is a specialist at the processing of glass fibre plastic.

For the vehicle technical part the car mechanic master craftman Günter Dahnke joined the projectteam. His calling card was the firm Beetles Revival in Wöbbelin which has a large know-how resulting from turning Beetles into convertibles.

The project was intoduced to the DEKRA( the German vehicle registration office) so that there later were no problems with the admission. At the introduction the 1:10 model was very helpful.

April 2003
Acquisition of a New Beetle (TD) as a basis for the conversion.
We start to build a 1:1 model of the rear mudguads.
Reinforcement of the subfloor of the vehicle subsequent clearance of parts of the car body near the b-pillar.
