VW T4 Transporter 5 Cylinder 2.5 Petrol

Hi all, I have a VW T4 Transporter 5 Cylinder 2.5 Petrol van, I was wondering if this is a sleved down 2.8 quattro engine, or what engine it is.

It revs out smoothly to 5500 RPM and I was wondering just how far it could be taken.

Not sure waht it is if it's a 2.5 5 cyl. 2.8s are usually V6. Plenty of 2.5tdi 5 cyls though.

It is petrol. It's an AAF or ACU engine code. Only available in models called 'California' or 'Transporter'. ETKA doesn't go as far as saying whch engines are based on each other. AAF was available from 1990 so my be a bored/stroked 2.3 ?? I could try and cross ref other parts from those engines but don't have time now.
