just bought an S6 avant
Discussion
hi,there we modify these, they are a good bus, brakes are a little vague but we are doing big brake conversions for these.in sweden these engines will modify to over 500hp ,im an independant audi specialist near chester we own an ex biela super touring car..01829 771165 or 07731949928,,tim or chris
I am not after anything in particular, but as I have justg bought it I thought I'd do some research and see if there was anywhere that people would really recommend.
I am going to get used to it then decide if anything needs changing, but it is meant to be a fun shopping car so I don't want big changes as it is currently a great all rounder, I think anything else would have a less succesful balance of practical and fun. I hope I'll just need a good garage for servicing and perhaps better brakes. If I want a car with more performance I'd rather get a weekend car than try to tweak this too much.
Cheers for the help

Don't know where you are in UK, but QST in Haywards Heath, West Sussex are Quattro Specialists. Your engine is shared by the S2 and is a development of the Ur quattro. Which means it is tough as old boots. Brakes a weakness - other bits just wear out (steering pump etc) but the engines (with regular servicing) are good for very high miles before serious maintence (200k plus). Brakes as you point out are a bit poor - you have a variety of upgrades available. The other thing to consider is re-chip. Actually makes the car more economical - although that is not the main reason to have it done! Suggest a post on www.s2forum.com - more 'S' car experts than you can shake a stick at. They will answer all your questions.

I've got one (a 100S4 - more or less identical bar the badge), I've had it for years and I know it inside out. The forum for these cars is not one of the S2 forums - there are significant differences. Any questions about your car are best addressed to the guys on s-car-list@audifans.com. It's a mainly US list but the cars apart from being LHD are identical. I'd reinforce what 006 says about AM cars. QST are good as are Dialynx and the Quattro Workshop. Being an S6 I shouldn't have thought you've had many problems with the brakes because they're pretty good anyway, unless you're on a track.
What's the mileage?
To be honest it's difficult to imagine a better all rounder.
Where does this notion that the brakes are poor come from? They're not the poxy little G60 efforts from the S2 - UK S6 came with 300+mm jobbies from the A8. Got me out of all kinds of pickles

which is brilliant, it is the 2.2 turbo version of the first A6 and it is the best all round car I have ever driven. Does anyone else here have one and if so what do you think and are there and specialists I should know about?
I love these cars, always have had a soft spot for S Audis, they are real q-cars, enjoy..

ere yertis, What sort of mpg do you achieve from the S6?
It's just that my boggo 523i only manages 17mpg around town. Doesn't even have a turbo on it.
Don't mean to thread hi-jack, sorry.
Over the six or seven years I've had the car I've checked and re-checked this. Overall average always settles out at 22.1mpg. If I stick to the posted speed limit (as I always do) the mpg goes up to about 28mpg.
