Thinking of getting one of these.
Anyone have any oppinions / critisisms on them ?

Dont really want to get a Big Traditional 4x4, but need a vehicle with enough space for all my diving kitt, plus the ability to haul 1 1/2 tonnes up the slipway

Any oppinions on the Petrol / Diesel Motors ? What are they like as an everyday car to live with ?

From what I have seen, the residuals are very good.. so may go for a new or nearly new one if all the reviews are favourable, and the deal is right.

Also looking at the Volvo XC70 ...

They are absolutely and utterly unbelievable.
Just imagine owning a Land Rover that is quiet, handles like a Porsche, is as comfortable as an A8, and will do 140MPH!!
If you e mail me I'll give you my son's phone number.
He is an Audi Advocate and is an expert on them; he can fix you up with exactly what you're looking for.

Diesel Automatic (tiptronic) is the way to go, 2.5TDi much more saleable than 2.7T as fuel consumption is dire

Good ones sell quickly

If rear seat space is an issue then an Allroad has bags more room than the Volvo. Not driven either, just sat in them!!

About 3 months we were looking at a new Allroad (especially with all the deals you can get - we ended up roughly £8k off list).

However in the end picked up an 18 months old A6 Avant 2.5 TDI Quattro Sport and have been very very happy with it.

In the end it was the fact that the Allroad DVD Sat Nav (which is the new version & great) would mean I couldn't have DAB radio. Daft reason I know but I spend 3+ hours a day in the car so that's important to me...

The Quattro system is great - really gives the A6 great handling and is surprising fun around the back lanes

Now, I donot put a DAB radio on my list of "must haves".. neither is Sat Nav. As long as its got Climate control, Leather, and a CD Player / Tape together with a Radio that is able to play me "Terry Wogan" and "Johnny Walker", then I would be happy.

I Think the extra ground clearance is also a pre-requisit, as is the ability to swallow large volumes of luggage / transport 2 - 4 people in comfort.

Being an avid Diver, also means it would probably be used to launch / recover a 8 Meter RIB and equipment weighing in about 1 1/2 Tonnes, so the ability to Tow is also essential

Economy and ease to travel is also important, so Diesel is essential, as is an auto / Tiptronic Gearbox.

Economy on a 1.8 tonne 4wd auto??

Even with the diesel you'll be lucky to get over 30mpg.

Sorry, you're totally wrong here.
This is an extremely high tech, efficient vehicle and has a fully mapped ECU that integrates gearchange control with the engine.
It also has the huge advantage of fully height adjustable suspension so that it can be set for off-roading or fast motorway driving.
On top of that are specially designed wheels and tyres to give the optimum performance on different surfaces.

If you're getting a new one, have you asked about the 'Limited Edition' version?

Basically you get about £4k of kit added to the car for no extra cost, inc some stuff you can't get any other way (e.g. body coloured bumpers etc).

The dealers for some reason are a little coy about it but it's absolutely the one to go for...

What is the fancy suspension like to repair when the car gets a bit older? What goes wrong?

I'd possibly be in the market for an older one but worry about all those electric gubbins playing up. Audi aren't exactly the best manufacturer when it comes to fault free electrics (touch wood our A6 and TT have been faultless electrically).

I must say (touch wood) I've not had any electrical probs with any of my Audis, even an all-talking, all-Atari-dashboard WR quattro. I think I've replaced a few bulbs and a rear wash-wipe unit.

If you know people who can manage more than 30mpg on a regular basis in this car then fair enough, from viewing posts on other forums this seems to be the norm.

You should write the brochures for Audi Iolaire, with writing like that! Makes me wish I bought one now.

Not sure. I think they're waiting for this new, huge, 4x4 thingy in two years' time instead.

Is this to be marketed against the Toureg ?

Been looking at one of these.. Love the car, but its too new .. I'll wait and watch the markets and see what problems they develop in 2 - 3 years time.... Allroad still top of my list so far. Thanks guys for the banter / input
