Can you owners tell me what average MPGs you're getting out of your various A6 models? I have a 1.8T at the moment (well I have something else in the stable for speed). I find the car a lot more nimble after driving v6 engined versions which felt heavy and didn't handle as well (OK, I've not driven an S6). I'm just wondering how much fuel the bigger engined models use?

I'd like to know what kind of mpg you get out of the 2.7T, 4.2 Quattro and S6 models if anyone has these? DIS figures are fine (I can take 10% off ).

I don't want a tractor engined one! All this talk of 35mpg out of some of these exec diesels makes me wonder what the point is. I can understand why people drive the 1.9TDi with 50+mpg though it's not my scene.

Maybe I should find a 4.2 Quattro and stick an LPG tank in the boot

We get about 23mpg from a 1999 A6 4.2 Quattro - mostly used for a 35 mile round-trip to work - so some motorway, some town driving.

I get about 19mpg out of my S6. Worst of 8.8mpg (2 weeks driving a couple of miles through town to the station and back, not totally representative). Best I've seen on the DIS is just over 24mpg at a steady 70mph; usually more like 21-22mpg at motorway speeds, 15-16mpg for town.

For comparison, my (auto)RS6 gets:

Town, heavy traffic, 16mph CPU average = 15-16mpg
Mway, light traffic, 65mph CPU average = 21-23mpg
Mway, clear 92mph CPU average = 18 mpg
BRoad, clear, 54mph CPU average = 14-16mpg

Overall about 17mpg. Good for what you get. Just tugs at your consience,a bit in traffic.

Note these are CPU averages, not driving speeds at any particular time.
