s3 revo problem

a friend has had his s3 revo'd. when he accellerates from low down the rev range, it misses around the 2.5k mark, anyone seen this before?

quite confident it's the coil packs on the way out, known problem on 1.8 t engines,if it's out of warranty, ring audi and they will see from the chassis number if you qualify for a goodwill guesture, they hand them out left right and centre
