I drove one only the other day.

A nice thing. I liked the engine, and the switchtronic varable gearbox thing is great.

Nicely finished too, quiet and smooth.

Definately a wafter , rather than a sporting drive. Not very sporty at all in fact - dead steering, and very "slack" - you can turn the wheel a fair bit before anything happens !

So its not a sporty car at all. But it is still very nice.

If you want a better drive -get a BMW. If you want a classy looking cruiser get the Audi.

Sad to say the S4 Cabrio's not that much better than the 3.0. I'd agree about the BM, being a better drive, but thats my personal preference.

Either way, they're both lovely cars and very desirable. Horses for courses I suppose.

The sport pack and sport seat are a waist of money?

It's to replace an SLK, so sportivness is not essential.

I'd say so.

It ain't a sporty car, so having sports suspension will just make the ride too harsh IMO. Sports seats - personal preference down to if they fit your bum well !!

A mate has one. It's a nice-looking car witha a very pleasant interior. If you want to cruise along, go for it. If you like going fast around corners, don't - it's like trying to turn an oil tanker.

They are cruisers rather than performance cars. However, sport pack is a must - not only for residuals, but you get 17" wheels and the comfiest seats going. The ride is better on the sport model. Other musts for residuals are leather and a sensible hood / paint combo.

Nice to haves which should see most of the money back / easier resale are heated seats and Bose. Get a wind deflector - well worth it and parking sensors are a must if you regularly parallel park.

The 3.0 makes a lovely noise

I haven't heard what's happening with the cab yet - the A4 is (heavily) facelifted with a brace of new engines. The old cab went for years after its doner model was replaced, but I'm not sure the same will happen this time as they are going for the uniform look across the range.

The 2.4 and 3.0 are old engines, the new 3.2FSI V6 would be interesting, as would the new 2.0T FSi.

Thats interesting. The one I drove was a Sport ( i think) and I thought the ride was pretty jiggly on poor roads. You say that the non -sport will be worse?

A couple of people I know have made the swap and much prefer it. I've driven both and although I don't drive hard, I prefered the body control on the Sport. It's not a performance car - mine only has 163 bhp, but it handles / rides / stops / goes pretty well.

It's a 750 option and you get 17" wheels (390) sports seats with electric lumbar adjustment (700), sports suspension(250), sports leather steering wheel, leather gear knob and gaiter (dunno, probably a few quid) ... so not bad value really. A must for residuals though.

Have a look at a Saab 9-3 Aero Convertible (latest shape) better drive than the Audi and save £'s
