Hi folks,
My wifes mk4 golf 1.8t seems to bottom out at the rear easily.
Any sort of big potholes (hopefully avoided) or speed humps produce a hefty thud from the rear. Which induce a wince from me not only because I don't like thuds in cars, but my spine needs a shock absorber.
The shockers are not rattling, it just seems like it has absolutely no suspension at all, and certainly a lot harder than her previous incarnation of the model (old one S reg, this one, V reg).
It seems to sit a bit lower as well.
It hasn't had any boy racer add on suspension kits or anything, and as far as I know is bog standard.

Anyone else experience this?

Or am I turning into my Dad- pass the slippers please, I need comfort.

I've got a MkIV TDi (130) with the optional sport suspension and whilst I haven't had it bottom out it is hard as rock.

The whole car shakes and shimmies over the slightest undulation in road surface and speed bumps are best taken at low speed with much trepidation.

Not sure I'm right about this but didn't the Turbo GTi come with sports suspension?

I think you are right Andy, and must admit it is damned uncomfortable.
My brother has a Bora tdi 130 and it certainly rides a lot better than mine.
Maybe mine has the extra hard smash your spine suspension.
My mates griffith is more comfortable to sit in than this thing.

I think mk4 sports suspension is simply the same shock absorbers with 30mm shorter progressive springs. I found the suspension far too soft on the original springs and too hard on the sports ones, on my V5.

I had a similar problem with the corrado, turned out to be a knackered bump stop, only cost a few quid to sort.
