I fitted one of these to my VW Passat 110 TDi and the difference was fantastic, it is now very very quick!

They market a version for most models, really easy to fit too, took just 10 mins during a lunch break.

Thanks alot, was it the only one you looked at - it does seem to be the best compromise of power and cost

I looked into it fairly thoroughly and it performs the same functions as an ECU remap by sending modified signals to the ECU, it changes the injector timing and prolongs the injector opening duration and has the capability to richen the fuel mixture but only on demand.

There are other units that you can buy that are no more than a resistor in line on the cooling electrics which fool the ECU into thinking the engine is cold to give a richer fuel/air mixture, these IMHO are not very good at all, they use much more fuel and don't enhance performance by much either. My colleague tried one in his A4 TDi and was very disappointed and returned it after a day or so to obtain a refund.

Go for a tuning box type, these are fine and usually have the added benefit of a manual adjustment to richen the mixture bias a little further. If you turn mine up a fair bit it is like an absolute rocket but gets a bit sooty at the rear, so you just need to back it off a small amount at a time until you get the desired performance without the smoke. Even if you leave this alone you'l find the car peforms so much better than standard.

It was also a very good price compared to other similar units.

Good luck with it, you'll wonder how you ever liked the car without it!
