OK I realise that it is hot at the moment, so I've got the air-con on all of the time in my A4, but should the engine fan be running all the time as well? It noticeably saps power from the engine (1.8 non-turbo).

Is this normal or is there a problem?

The water temp sits at a constant 90c and never wavers, so it is doing it's job, just seems strange to be on all the time. The fan goes off when I switch off the air-con.

So long as your Aircon is on, the fan is on. Dont worry, I have a coupe and the same thing happens, as soon as the A/C is on, the fan gets whirling

Its probably got a temp sensor for the a/c and as its so hot at the mo, itll automatically keep the fan running to remove the heat from the a/c rad.
