Bit of a difficult one to explain (but i'll give it a go)

On Sat I had new front shocks fitted to my Golf. They are uprated gas jobbies. When they were fitted the top mounts were sitting flush with the body work however when I checked them last night they are sticking up about 1/2 inch. Is this right? Or do they need tightening up again? I'm sure I can hear them "knocking" over some bumps.

Also the guy that fitted them said I didn't need the tracking redoing - Is this correct?

Thirdly I think the back ones need doing as they are obviously getting a bit soft. As over some bumps the front is bouncing as the rear squats. Not very comfortable!

It sounds like you need to get onto the garage and give them a bollocking, they've slipped.

As for the discomfort, if you uprated the front and left old saggy shocks on the back then dont be surprised if it handles like a hippo on crack.

Will do.

They are planned for the next pay day. (might get it lowered slightly at the same time)

How are you checking them?

If you're just peering under the bonnet then the two black bits you see are not the top mounts - they should be on the strut.

As for the tracking it might not need doing if the fitter already did it - you didn't say.

Rear mounts may be on their way out but I suspect it'll be the rear beam bushes or dampers which are more shot and giving you dodgy rear handling.

Just nipped down to kwik fit so they could have a look at them.

The car was bouncing around all over the place. They couldn't believe that they were new shocks. Fairly sure the drivers side is fked and maybe the passenger side too (But thats not as bad)

Rang up GSF where I got them from and they said they wouldn't replace them if they were done up by mole grips!?! (Apparently this is a favourite trick by the fitter and that they can see when this has been done). As it scores the shaft of the damper or something?? Thus weakening them.

Apparently I need to buy a new shock (or a pair) then go to them with the "faulty" one so they can check it out.

Just spoken to my mate who works at the place I got them fitted and he reckons this is a load of bks and that they're gonna try and wriggle out paying for them as some places use air guns to tighten the nuts on them.

The car handles worse than it did before!!!!!!
