Does anyone care to shed any light on a few cars I have found out about recently. I am living on the continent now and now the wonderful world of lhd and http://uk.mobile.de are my recent havens. Firstly a car I have always been fond of, BMW e30 M3, there seem to be a few for sale all around the £7000 mark. With some special additions like Cecotto and Sport Evo. I suppose I am asking a lot but what would be of concern to drive one of these as a daily driver, talking 50kms per day plus weekend fun.

Next is the Audi Quattro or sometimes listed as Urquattro, from sort around 1984 , these things are still prices up anywhere to £9000, anyone care to divulge why they are so expensive. I really like the chunky styling and wide arches similar to that of the M3, but know very little about this car….

And one last one to ask about saw a car with OPEL badge and GS/e written on the back, think it may be an old Kadett, much to know about these? Would they be rwd and hence a drift slag. I remember reading about the OPEL Monza the other day on sxoc…and well cheap rwd fun if its possible….this is all on top of saving up for a 180sx which yahoo keeps tempting me with….o and if Paz reads this YES, I do still want an AE86….dammed cars see one, fall in love and add them to the list……

Joust, care to elaborare on the Ur-Quattro, anywhere I can find info or chat to people about them and tuning them/running them etc....any pics of your car... what would you expect to pay for on lhd in ok condition...and like the m3 is running costs crippling.

In my experience Quattro ownership has had the opposite effect on my sex life - I had to put mine on the market one time to save my marriage. Luckily no one wanted to buy it (because of my very honest description in the PH classifieds ) and then on Top Gear they raved about it and she realised that it was actually quite a special car.

Only people of a certain age appreciate the ur-Quattro, I find.

Joust, I enjoyed what footage there was of your car on Luca's Surrey Run DVD - if there's another similar run I'll bring my 20valve along to bolster the Quattro corner.

Piccies here www.chipmunk.org.uk/quattro/page_01.htm

Running costs for mine are from ~£700 to £2k per year, insurance is £250 on a classic policy and then just petrol + road tax. But them I'm anal about everything being "original" and all things that are "just on the way out" being replaced.

www.isham-research.com/quattro/

etc.

Just put "ur quattro" (without the quotes) into www.google.com and you'll find loads of sites with masses of advice!

Fab run, and I managed to stay (just) with some of those fangled 5.0l TVR things which says something about the old girl.

Next one I'll probably bring the Marcos along, but it'd be great to see another one again - they are getting so rare nowdays (last I saw was DVLA reconed there were just over 200 WR's still "alive")

Can someone elaborate on the different models available, its the shape and style of the car so the power isnt really a great concern, obviosuly faster the better though...also where uk cars all rhd/lhd, as I would be looking for a lhd one really...and in germany the prices seem much higher than in uk....but I could be wrong if anyone has any details..

Suggest you read Joust's links above. There's not much in it overall power/performance-wise. The modifications concern trim and reliability - the later the car, the less trouble it's likely to give.
