I've just bought a used Audi S3 that has been chipped by AMD. As the car is already chipped I have no comparison of what is "normal" so would appreciate help/comments on the following :

1. the boost comes in in a noticeable surge. I have a friend who's car is APR chipped and his is much more linear in its delivery. Does anyone else have an AMD car that does this? Does anyone know if AMD would do a remap to iron this out?
2. there are approx three flatspots in the rev range as the power is delivered. Again is this an AMD characteristic and could they remap it?

3. However, the biggest irritation is that the engine continues to rev slightly when changing gear after accelerating at full power. At part throttle it does not do this, but on full throttle (even when deliberately lifting off the gas before depressing the clutch) the engine will rev a couple of hundred revs after lifting off? Is this a normal S3 trait or an engine management issue?

Cheers

Paul

Maybe give AMD a call, or better still come up there with us for the Rolling Road Day on 21/8. I beleive there may still be places available.

Usual suspects with 1.8T issues are air mass meter & recirc valve (DV) posibly sounds like your DV is up the spout rather than a mapping issue. (DV cheap & easy to replace if it is that)

A pal of mine had an A3 T Sport which AMD chipped and it had some very similar issues.
He went from an std 1997 T Sport to this one which was 2001 and he had chipped from new by AMD but via the supplying VAG dealer. I drove this car numerous times and compared to the std model the power did appear appear to come in with much more of a rush and it did have several definate and rather obtrusive flat spots which were never really resolved despite a couple of return visits to AMD. Must admit I cant recall if there was a problem with the revs continuting to rise.
This and the fact it had the coil pack problems of the time meant he only kept the car for a year or so before trading it in against a new Merc.

My A4 Avant 1.8T Quattro sounds quite similar. I have only had the car for 2 weeks and have never had a turbo before, so like you am unsure as to to how they usually behave! Mine has been chipped by AMD too, and I notice the high revs when changing gear (especially from 1st to 2nd). Another thing I have noticed is when I am driving along in 5th or 6th gear at around 5k and at full throttle, instead of just continuing to accelerate smoothly, the power seems to fall and rise continuously, as if I was coming off and on the throttle!
It's really quite annoying! I don't really know what my first move should be! Should I take it to Audi or AMD to have a look at?

Check for any air/boost leaks, split/leaking diaphragm in DV
