Hi chaps.

I have a Mk3 95M 2.0 GTi, 107000 miles. Needs new discs and pads all round but also has a siezed bleed nipple on one of the front calipers. Simplest thing to do is just get oe pads and discs but before i commit i'd like to check out the options for improving the braking a little.

I've read on the mk4 site that lots of those guys upgrade the gti brakes to TT specs, ie bigger discs and TT caliper mounting bracket but keep the stock calipers.

Does anyone know if the same is possible on a mk3? Ie would Mk4 discs, caliper mounts/calipers fit on my Mk3 hubs? I know the pcd is the same at 5x100 but i can't find any other info.

Any specialists out there that would have experience of upgrading mk3 brakes with oe components?? I don't want to spend a fortune so i'm guessing that one of those sexy brembo kits would be too much dosh, but maybe oe upgrade to mk4 gti/TT specs would be only a little more than i'm going to have to spend anyway..?

Any help appreciated!

Cheers
Rob

Have you had a look at Tarox prices yet?
Their advert in CircuitDriver magazine looked interesting.

The 288 caliper is the same as the 312 (bar the carrier IIRC) and bolts on ok. You can get the same brakes of a Leon Cupra. You'll possibly need 16s for them to fit. The details of this upgrade are on various other VW BBs

Thanks Ed.

I don't want the expense of going for the full cupra/brembo setup. Keeping the existing calipers but with larger discs and new caliper mounts to suit is all i need right now.

Thanks for the reply.

You'll find the 312 set up off TT/Leon Cupra(not R)/op end Golfs. Look at the VAG forums and if you're lucky you might be able to pick up the whole set of front brakes for £100 or so

I dont know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but what about Mk3 VR6 brakes? They would be stronger and better?

Managed to find some second hand Audi S3 discs and calipers. Stealth Racing in Southam fitted them up for me (small spacer required and a little machining) along with stock discs and pads on the rear.

Still bedding in but its all looking very good. The S3 calipers are bigger than my old ones and the front discs are now the 312mm S3 size which is same as the TT.

Coupled with Pagid pads its going to stop very well
