Following on from my previous post, I have been offered a 1998 A4 2.8 quattro with 130k, fash for £5500.
The devil in me says buy it, as I generally am not scared of miles if the history is there.

Bucket of problems, or a hoot?

Again, thanks so far, and further help greatly appreciated.

It'll be an avsolute hoot. It's a good engine but munches fuel by the tankerload. A £60 tank in my 100 2.8 will do just over 350 miles, but the a4's a lighter car so should be a bot better.

Gotta be worth a try. There is something about that quattro badge...

If you don't like it you could always move it on again, as long as it hasn't had too many owners.

Drinks the juice & not very quick.

However lovely creamy engine note (not as lovely as the old warbleing 5 pots tho) that kicks the washing machine on spin cycle like drone of the 1.8t into ablivion, with reasonable midrange, I had one briefly with 195k on the clock & the engine was sweet as a nut although had probs with a knocking centre prop/driveshaft.

Interior & exterior like it had only done a few K & otherwise built of granite & had absolutley fantastic aircon system that could have probably cooled a large factory!
