I just wondering after seeing one earlier quite how a V5 engine works. In my mind it says that this type of engine is completly unstable and a stupid idea. Do any of you know how they design the engine so it is stable and smooth? I mean is it just like any other engine or is one side weighted differently or do the cylinders have different displacement to even up the force on each side of the engine.... someone help me!
The V5 is basically a VR6 minus one cylinder, and is therefore practically a straight 5 with the pistons evenly spaced along the crank.
To be honest I don't know if there is any special balancing required, but I'm sure all the pots are the same size.
I'm currently running a Bora V5 as my day to day car, and I have to say I'm very impressed.
It's quicker, handles better, is more comfortable and more economical than the 1.8 Passat I had previously.
I'm really not sure why both the Bora and the V5 are so underrated.
Cheers Dan
