So after quietly fuming that Simon has his car in hand I have decided to stop being a stroppy bugger and be an incredibly stroppy bugger! Firstly I am afraid to say Arval’s comms have been nothing short of shocking completely devoid of communication really. No calls just I think three emails putting the car back coincidentally by three months every single time. Received one what two weeks ago ten days prior to the previous delivery date pushing back to Jan. Now Arval(as I have not spoke to them since Jan when order was placed have no idea I have been speaking to Inchcape on a regular basis giving me honest progress or lack of any)so after the Jan date given by Arval I called Inchcape again to be told no build week and the Jan date was more than likely made up! Yup deffo made up when I questioned Arval they told me they would check! 5 days later after receiving no info I called again to be told that yes Jan would not happen! Called again today to be told they were escalating and then conveniently received email stating March. Honestly they just make this st up to try and placate. Honestly beyond a f*****g joke now. These cars have been on order I believe since Jan 2021 so one small crumb of comfort they will probably be the longest ever VW’s from order to delivery yup that softens the blow! CRAZY

Jeez. I would definitely deal with Inchape not Arval for updates. Nicky Troomer did a good job on updating me whilst Adam who has now left said what I wanted to hear I think.

No idea how I got my car - only a couple from this batch ordered in 2021 have actually come through. This thread might be something to keep an eye on and go back a few pages

I've never had any update from Arval unless I've directly called to ask what the f is going on. Never told of any delays. Inchcape at least are honest, although it's not what I want to hear. I'd threaten to cancel, but I think they would snap my hand off....

Me neither, never called them apart from like the last 2 weeks, they are appalling at getting back to you and emailing 10 days before the October delivery date informing of Jan delivery once checked with Inchcape was totally made up(knew already there was no build week so that was not going to happen just frustrates further) It’s frustrating really as it is apparent that they really don’t care. Have to feel for Inchcape Cheltenham, although it is nowhere near as well run as when Sarah Carlton was there they at least have empathy for customers plight and tell it as is. Imagine if there actual fleet managers treated companies with thousands of vehicle with them like this! Like Jet2 these will be the last dealings with them sadly!

Not decrying the value of the deal but it's also on a very low mileage by the looks of it - 18k over 36 months so only 6k miles a year?

Yeah, that does me to be honest. Work from home and my regular trips to UK offices stopped 3 year ago, even before Covid - all Teams meetings now. My Cupra lease car I just sent back had 14k on after 3 year, I paid for 30k.
This deal is so good as Arval cocked up with the pricing. God knows what it was meant to be.

Yeah happy with the wheels now I can see them in person. I had a bit of regret not going with the slightly more expensive all back option but quite happy with these.
Simon, just to further annoy the rest of us, what are your first impressions? Happy with it? Will it be worth the min. 7 month wait?

I spent 2.5 years in an 840 so it's a very, very different proposition. Previous to the 840 was a B9 S5 (4 of them!) and before that a Golf R manual on the crazy cheap lease deals of yester-year. Overall, given the price in the current market I am happy with it and its fund to drive something the 840 wasn't

- Ride - firm but not uncomfortable even comparing to the 840. I think its perfectly acceptable for this type of car. There is more tyre roar and road noise than I expected. First time I have heard stones in the arches for years as well!

- Performance - faster than I expected even with only 150 miles on the clock. I have driven a mk8 R and whilst it doesn't get off the line anywhere near as well, once you are in second its just as quick. Sound actuator sounds terrible so I turned that off and you can hear some burbles and the odd pop and bang from the exhaust which is surprising and sounds good for a 4 pot. Getting 35 mpg on my 11 mile B road commute to and from work

- Handling - like a go kart and genuine good fun to hustle it round some bends. You don't feel quite as brave as you can be in the R but it somehow feels more fun and lighter on its feet

- Interior - The seats look great and are comfortable. Generally it does seem a bit of step down from the mk 7 in terms of quality and there is way to much piano black plastic on the dash and the digital cockpit to my eyes should be a few inches bigger given how much plastic surrounds it. Steering wheel feels good in the hands. Infotainment isnt as bad as I thought given all the complaints online but it isnt great either. Some people complain about everything being on the touchscreen but there are shortcut buttons for climate etc. For the first time I find myself using android auto all the time whereas I have never done that previously. Mainly to have google maps as opposed to the standard maps which look like a 2005 Tom Tom and to use Spotify easily. I really miss iDrive from the BM though.

Positives - Looks good inside and out, fast and handles really well and more comfortable than I thought it would be, mpg is dencent

Negatives - General feel and build quality falls short of the mk7, infotainment isn't the best, road noise

I will get a few taken. Main bit is the piano black centre console.

I have fitted black mirror caps, due to have the roof wrapped black soon and have the genuine VW clear/smoked taillights fitted. Yes its a lease but this is for 3 years and I wanted to do just a couple of bits to enhance the looks that are entirely reversible.
