If you have an ECU problem, I would first seek the advice of a Jag expert, Ie Mike Ferrari, it may just be a small electrical problem. If the ecu requires replacement or reprogramming, I personaly would look at an exchange uprated item, I am not sure if AJ6 engineering do one for the XJ8, but well worth looking at for improved midrange performance and improved fuel consumption.
The uprated ECU for a V12 XJS is only £250 exchange.

Bob, this is where I show my lack of knowledge in Jags other than the enjoyment of owning one, and never previously been bothered about service costs !! But where do you come up with ECU from EMS ? What is an ECU?

Ems = Engine Managment System.

Ecu = Electronic Control Unit.

Both are used to describe the box of tricks which manages your Fuel injection system and ignition system.
