Non factory warranty cover for Nikasil Problems

I am currently considering buying a 98 XJR and like many people am concerned by the potential Nikasil problems. There seems to be some difference of opinion as to whether the engine change would be covered under manufacturers warranty. Does anyone have any examples where they ahve not managed to get a free engine change (under 100k). Also I was wondering whether anyone had tried or had success with any claims using a third party warranty company like warranty direct? Has anyone got any particular exerience with this company as on paper their cover seems very comprehensive?

I was told yesterday by my local dealer that the car needs to be under 5 years old!! Does anyone know a dealer that may do it?
