I thought my keyfob had bust as it wasn't arming the alarm, so I bought a new one from Jaguar and then I tried to re-programme it using the flashing headlight trick - the alarm beeped but it didn't re-program. So the alarm appears to work (it works if you lock the driver's door), is there a fuse for the transmitter to recieve? Or is this a job for the dealer and does anyone have any experience of getting this done at the dealer - how much?

Thanks.

If you bought a new one from Jaguar, surely they will have included the cost of programing it to your car.

No unfortunatley they don't. Its £90 for a new fob and then they charged for programming it - I've heard somewhere in the region of £80.

What I'm worried about though is taking it down to the dealer who uses the same method I've used (flashing the headlighrs 5 times) and then inform the alarm is Sd and that'll be £600 please.

So I just wanted to know if anybody knew if the programming at the dealer is just this flashing light trick or can they do something better?

I bought a new one from an Independant - had the opposite problem, couldn't get the fob to work using the PC software and ended up having to program it using your method.

That was suggested by the Software company after they spent a morning trying to program the fob to no avail.

It was strange, but my car didn't beep when using the other method but it programed OK.

Weird.....

Further thoughts;

it might be that you have filled all FIVE slots for the fobs - you can only have a maximum of 5. You can remove the extent ones, using the software method at a dealer/independant.

It is very unlikely that the alarm system is F***ed, more likely they are trying it on if one of your fobs still works.

I cant answer how! but when i got my XJ8 (main dealer) there was only one set of keys, when the new keys and alarm fob turned up I had to leave car for 20 mins and give them both key fobs so they could be "reprogrammed" together!!! cost was zero but cant imagine they can charge too much for 20mins work
