My dad has a 1990 v12 with the following problem, quote "car starts fine when cold, drives ok all day, provided you don't turn off the engine. After a break, the car will start & tick over but will not allow you to increase the revs above 1500. When you try to increase the revs, the car revs to 1500, drops to 1000, increases to 1500, drops to 1000 etc.etc, even with your foot flat to the floor. if you leave it for a couple of hours, it starts & drives perfectly. Why is it playing up when warm ? "

Any help please

At a guess, I would say that one or more of the sensors for the ecu are playing up. Your car would also have Merrellie ignition, this had two completely seperate ignition systems, one for each bank of cylinders. If one of the coils is breaking down, the remaining bank will run perfectly as a six possibly giving the symptoms you describe. If your car is fitted with cats, there is a very real risk of a fire
Get it checked out asap.
