The trims around both my side windows are showing some bubbling of the paintwork or in the case of the top trim bubbling under the rubber cover. It seems to be a common problem as I've seen others with the same issue.

I've spoken to Jaguar and the price of these is faintly stupid and it'll cost me approximately £500 for the two lower strips (1 in the picture below) and two strips around the roof line (2 in the picture below).

1. Anyone know how to remove these trims? I am sure I can rub down and respray the lower trim (1 in picture) as there is only fairly light bubbling in one place. Assuming I can remove easily this shouldn't be a problem.
2. What is the paint code for the lower trim - it's a metallic grey of some sort.
3. Any suggestions regarding the top roof line trim (2 in the picture)? As it's rubber coated I guess my options are limited. It looks like the metal has oxidised underneath the rubber causing the bumps you can see.
4. Failing the above does anyone know any breakers I could try to see if they have the parts cheaper than Jaguar?

Cheers,
Graham

The bottom ones just literally push up and off. Top ones are a bit trickier but with some careful masking can be done in situ.
The paint code is open to some debate but i found 'gunmetal' from my supplier was a good match. Others have found 'dorchester grey' is the right one.
Theres a good thread about it on the jaguar forum.

Thanks. Is the Dorchester Grey available as a standard Jag colour or is it a mix-up job?

On the top ones the grey bits are okay, it's the rubber coated bit nearer the window that looks a bit tatty. I assume though the grey metal bit and the rubber coated bit are one piece. Not sure what can be done about the rubber coated bit if anything.

Rover Dprchester Grey is the same, could try Halfords

The problem with the top strip is that there is a allyspring in the rubber, that is what corrodes, I don't know of anyone that has found a supplyer.

I do have item number 1 if you are interested

The top trim is easy to remove, pull off the rubber and there are a few trim screws to undo and off it comes. The rear quarter windows are trickier as these are held on by metal clips which corrode and can break, very similar if not the same to the ones holding the front and rear screen trims in place.

There is no other supplier, yes they cost ALOT, never use too, you could buy the lot for about £500 but that has since quadrupled.

If it is just the painted section this is fixable with a bit of grafting and painting but it is when the corrosion gets under the rubber you are buggered!

Only thing to do then is trawl the Jaguar bone yards!

Have the same on a couple of my strips along the bottom window edge. These were replaced under warranty a few years back but I guess they just have a lifespan. On the colour I'd always thought they were colour coded - appear the same as my paintwork, which is Titanium, or is it just a close resemblance ? Fromt he above it sounds like all are a standard colour, so I should go for the Dorchester grey rather than the Titanium ?

Will certainly attempt a spray correction before getting them replaced, as I had been quoted the same hefty number for what is basically a bit of trim.

Titanium and Dorchester are just close to each other. Dorchester paint code is LDP on the later 2005 XKs the trims are Black.

The previous owner of my car colour coded the trims to the car, the jury is out on that one at the moment, I might put them back as original or go for black.

Since I changed the colour of my XKR to Vapour Grey I felt Dorchester was to close so clash
I decided to change the trim to Black, also the wheels

It has been an ongoing problem that the rubber coated aluminium window trim/seal on the XK8 Coupe bubbles up due to the aluminium under the rubber oxidising. This part which is a push fit on the "drip moulding seal carrier" is not available as an OE replacement part.
After much searching I have commissioned a suitable profile neoprene extrusion which looks identical to the original rubber coated aluminium seal but will not deteriorate as the original design.
I am making this "XK8-R Door Window Trim" available via ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/…/Jaguar-XK8-R-Door-Wi... if anybody is interested.
