Older one- off concept replica

I seem to remember a fellow "down under" or maybe a Kiwi was going to build a replica of what could have been the V12 replacement of the E-Type, IIRC. This was late 80's or early 90's. Did anything develop from this idea or did it just fade away?
I seem to recall that the factory signed off on the idea of an exact (as possible) replica, as long as it did not have any "Jag" badging. Are there any links or do any of you have some infomation?
Is my memory as bad as my wife says?
