Just Bought a 1998 XJ V8 3.2 Auto
Discussion
Just bought the above in Sapphire Blue/Oatmeal Full leather, Full Jag History, etc and 110,000 miles for £7500.
Anyone care to comment on if I bought on the money or a bargin?
Decided I need something quieter than the Chimaera for motorway work.
I'm picking it up on Friday and will get around to adding a pick to my profile.
Any comments on changing the alloys for larger ones and how it may effect the handling/ride - where to get the best deal?

That sounds a decent deal to me.
I had a 3.2 XJ8 sport, and was a very good car.
Same colour as your future purchase, and in my view the best colour combination.
Hope you enjoy.
I have this strange urge to buy cars in similar colour schemes......
Check my profile for the Chimaera.
Nice, I do like Chims.
I think the best looking wheel for an XJ8 is the XJR 18" Penta alloy. Looks excellent, quite similar to the examples in your photo. Bet they're not cheap
Not sure if the 19's would need different dampers though....The suspension on mine was hard enough and that was only with the 16" dimple alloys.

It has standard touring suspension, rather than the sports suspension. Lower profile tyres with stiffer sidewalls should firm up the handling a little, but not as much as the sports suspension would.
Hopefully, should be able to maintain the circumfrance or very similar to standard tyres on 16".

I still don't think anything can match the XJ for smooth ride.
Or a noisy one for a chim.
You have both ends of the spectrum with those two.
Must admit, I am looking forward to the time I can buy a TVR.
Hope you enjoy the Jag.
Have you heard the paramount exhaust system.....
(go to www.paramountperformance.com and have a listen...)
I think it is paramount performance, they tune Jaguars.

Hi,
I bought 4 x 18" Penta's from my Jag dealer. They had an exceptional offer on wheels and if I remember, they were about £150 each so look out for deals. Perhaps ask the dealersto keep you informed.
On Jag's advice, themed these up with Pirell Rosso 255/40 tyres.
Looks amazing and I think handing is improved. No change to ride.
I'll try to put a pic on my prof.

Look nice, but I have decided to keep the original 16" 20 spoke wheels. The reason I was going to change was that the original lacquer is knackered on a couple of the wheels. Having a dig around I've got hold of a spare full size wheel, so I can get two wheels refurbished without having to run around on the spacesaver.
