Managed to grab a lift in a Chimaera 500 to VW on Sunday. Great time, fantastic fun in the convoy from Clacketts and enjoyed being reminded how fast the 500 was

So, spent most of Sunday getting stronger and stronger urges to buy into some more horsepower. Astons are still a little way out of my reach, so as an interim measure I started considering either a Griffith or Chimeara. All sounds very logical so far right?

Well, when we get back I take my Chauffeur to the pub in the old Sov... Deciding that I spent far too much of my life cruising in 'D' I decided to use the J-gate to the max and play with that little 'sports' button. I had seriously forgotten how quick the big bus is, as had my passenger who commented on it's speed despite being well used to an extra 100bhp and 700kg less!

The problem is now, that I have a car which is relatively cheap - as in, if i stuffed it then I don't lose too much. It's also plenty quick enough really, although you have to be very, very brave to get around even the gentlest of curves.

So what do I do? Stick with the big bus and have fun on the late night motorways and scare myself silly on the twisty stuff, or plump up 15k for a TVR? Have spent many an hour thinging XK8s, 6-yclinder XJRs but just can't hlp wondering if they really are that significantly different to what I already have?

Other thought is that if I get another Jag then I have to chop-in my current one, but if I got a 2-seat sportscar then I'd have to keep the Jag for family outings etc.

Any comments / advice???

i traded my v8 xjr for a chim 500. after a year and a half i was getting bored with the jag, after same time i just love chim more and more (not that you'd know from the state its in)! i guess i just love DRIVING it!

i bought an old granny (280,000 miles!) for £150 last april to go to the shops in.

That's right, you know it makes sense...

Stop trying to be a smarta**....just go out and buy yourself a great Chimaera and have the best of both worlds, as I do, TVR & Jag!!

OK, Throwing another thought into the mix which I'm getting pretty serious about now....

Thinking of keeping the Sov and doing what I always said I wouldn't do - fit a towbar. The upside of this is I can then pull a trailer with an old Formula Ford 1600 on the back to go racing with!

When I want a blast on the country lanes at the weekend I can always use the missus' MR2... not quite a TVR but I'd have the FF for the really fast stuff!

Eventually you will find the F16 becomes a bore...passed mine on to my son to play around with, the 'S'Type for smart, the Chim for sheer pleasure. (The wife is happy enough to stick with her Maserati.)
