Hi,
Are there many people on here with an S Type? I joined Pistonheads mainly becuase of a desire to buy a TVR Tamora, but I can't get rid of the niggle at the back of my mind the reliability issues that continue to haunt TVR's.
I had a test drive in a 2.5 S Type Sport auto today and I must admit to liking it. The dealer has said if I place an order it will be a new (still to be launched) 2004 S Type - which looking at the launch brochure looks only a liitle different.
If anyone does have any advice or views on the S, please let me know.

I've owned Jags since 1995 and TVR's since 1988. Admittedly TVR's do need more fettling and a warrenty is a good idea, but we have had Jaguars bought home on transporters just as often as TVR's. S types have a weakness in the water pumps on the V8 resulting in overheating, the wife's XJ8 ran it's rear wheel bearings. Her XJ8 abd XJ6 both suffered total electrical failure and both non started from time to time. I'm currently exploring dodgy ( I think) traction control on a 4.2 S.
Having said all this, they are brilliant, but totally different to a seat of the pants TVR - depends what you want really

I bought my first Jaguar last year its a 2001 S-Type Sport V8, very happy with the car and the V8 is amazing.
No matter which S-type you buy I'm sure you won't be disappointed...
You cannot fault the car but just be aware of the running costs, my last service cost over £1000 because I had to replace 2 tyres (£230 each) plus the service plus some brake disks... ouch!
It's proably my own experience but I also find Jaguar after sales abysmal (I won't mention which dealer)
I share your concerns on a TVR, I was looking at that as my next car and I'm guessing when you own one its probably worth the hassle but reading some of the stories about Tuscan engine rebuilds and TVR not necessarily coughing up on the warranty just seems like too much grief for me...
