xj8 how many miles is too many.
Discussion
I have seen a 99 v reg xj8 4.0 in the local paper in a garages add but the add just says silver xj8 full leather immaculate £11995 it doesn't mention the mileage which probably means it's high.
how many miles is too many for a v reg xj8, iwas thinking of not bothering looking at it if it's over 80000 miles, as i only do 3000 miles a year it would still be under 100,000 in 6 years time.
(i hope its done about 50,000).

Saw one in the 'Trader yesterday with 242,000 miles !!!!
Mine has nearly 90000 and is still spot on - as long as it has been looked after I wouldn't worry too much about mileage. If I were you, only doing 3000 miles a year you might be better off buying a high mileage one anyway. It will be cheaper, and if you do keep it for several years, the price differential won't be that much (check out the prices of '93).

Doug,
TBH, with these cars, engine mileage isn't a problem (imho). As long as the usual things are taken care of, then the engine is pretty bullet-proof for a long life. Jags tend to be let down by things like electrics, body corrosion and tired-looking interior.
I'm rebuilding the AJ6 engine on my XJ-S. 18 years and 117K miles on it, but all twenty-four valves and guides are well within spec, none of the cam-followers are worn, and the valve-seats only needed a little lapping to bring them back to their best.

I have just seen it,it is absolutely gorgeous silver with 5 spoke alloys and immaculate grey leather.BUT the mileage is 93000 which coupled with the price means its overpriced for the mileage.(i have seen one with 83000 on for a grand less navy blue though)so i will keep looking, but the xj remains in my top 3 choices.(The first two are W reg audi convertible last of old shape or v reg saab convertible),but i've allways wanted an xj so i could end up with any of the 3.Thanks for your help guys

Might have my 1999T XJSport 3.2 for sale very soon. 90000 miles, FJSH, Antigua Blue and oatmeal (I think - the creamy one - curse my memory) leather. I'll be asking a lot less than that one too.
Mike
I will have to see whats about when I have sold mine, it,s up for sale as soon as I have the number plate back on retention (probably at the end of the month).

My xj8 has completed 110k.
The engine is as quiet as a mouse, and in my view can easily do it again
(obviously with correct maintenance)
Sold it today though.
What are you replacing it with Mike - XJR6 or XJRV8 ?
Toby
Not sure yet Toby, I will have to hang on until I can afford an XJR V8.
At the moment I am driving a white 1.4 astra merit kindly donated by a friend until I find something else!
anybody know for definite when the nikasil bore problem finished. The original car in this thread is still for sale mike said I should be allright with a 99 but the guy who does my services thinks it might be a problem on cars up to 2000 but he's not sure though.
thanks in advance Dougie.
