The car is an 82 Daimler Double six (check profile).

I just had a heavy duty alternator and battery installed, and on my way home the car felt 'flat'..

The engine is running sweetly but it just had no grunt..it felt like driving a 1.3 litre Jag Took me a few minutes to realise that it was like i had a rev limiter installed.

If i am doing 3000rpm in 3rd in just won't accelerate any more, and if i drop into 2nd it breifly goes over 3k, and cuts back down again in about a sceond or two...

I have an alarm with intellistart, which does detect my RPM's so it can shut itself off if you try and drive it away without the keys in the ignition, but that is set to shut off a 2000 RPM.

I have checked the coils and all the wires seem to be in place (I checked this on the advice of my mechanic as I am completely clueless

Anyone ever had this happen to them? Does it sound expensive ? New ECU?

Added: I have just spoken to the guys that installed the alarm, and they are confident the alarm has nothing to do with it.

some V12,s have two seperate ignition systems, one for each bank. They will run on one bank and give the symptoms you describe. You will however be pooring un burnt fuel into the exhaust system, this has been the cause of several catastrauphic fires in XJ-S's. Do not Drive the car untill you have checked this out.

!
I have places I have to be tomorrow...and am starting a new job on monday morning which requires a 40 mile commute...This is not good.

Thanks for that
I am going to have to do something drastic and not just 'take it easy' until i can get to a mechanic...
Do I need an electrical specialist, rather than a mechanical specialist? Cos my mechanical guy is not around this weekend but i know someone who does electrics that i might be able to see...

thanks for your help
