3.2 XJ6 Sport potential purchase
Discussion
I have a 1997 XJ Sport.
The one you are looking at will not have the dreaded nicasil problem, so you are off to a good start.
Obviously check general engine health, smoking etc.
Interior wear, bolster, steering wheel, mats etc.
They wear incredibly well, but a weak point seems to be the front and rear suspension bushes, and steering racks as they have the harder sports suspension.
Check the gears change smoothly without any clonks, and make sure it is cold when first started up for viewing.
Also, they eat wheelbearings, and brake discs.
But most of all, check the service history thoroughly, against MOT's, and make sure the 60k service (big one) was completed by Jaguar, this is where the chains and every bit and bob gets checked.
I love mine, it seems to do everything well, and would only swap it for an XJR.
I think that covers most things......oh yes, electrics and climate, dont forget those.
Hope it goes well, and let us know.
Mike.
Another bit, check the VIN number . The plate is on the leading edge of the engine bay underneath the bonnet, and there should be a plastic plate on the left hand side on the dashboard, so you can see it through the windscreen. (Mine is an XJ8, but I would assume they are in the same place.)
