As above, I do.
Would I be better to hang on, for a V8 version. Or, sell the XJ8 and go for an XJR - 6.

I have a very very small nag in the back of my mind about the V8 engines and the nicasil bore wear problem, even though mine has been checked at every service, and was only checked about a month ago to be given a resounding bill of health.

I am perfectly happy with mine, and happy to keep it, but after sampling an XJR 6 (N reg) it is one of those 'gotta get me one' type moments.
Hopefully I can get over.

Anyone got any views?

Nicasil problem IIRC are only on early ones, most have been sorted with new engines.

I'm 3 weeks into XJR ownership (a 2000 V8) and I can tell you it's worth shelling out the moolah for.
I spoke to Jag before I bought and they assured me that the Nikasil problem didn't affect the supercharged engines. In any case any problem would have manifested itself a long time ago.
The XJR is unbelievably quick, it just explodes whenever you boot it - regardless of your current speed. It really does make my previous XK8 (which will basically perform like your current XJ8) feel sluggish.
As for money, well even my local Jag dealership are offering a 98 V8 (with Sat Nav) on 45k for £18k. Go privately and you could pick up high mileage V8 for £15k+

Naughty if he did, they effect all engines as the XJR uses the same block as the unsupercharged XJ8. It's only the early ones which were effected.

Four wheel, I couldn't use your link, something like "path not found"

With regard to the nicasil thing, four wheel is indeed correct, all of the early V8'S were affected.

Mine is an early one, never had an engine change but is in fine fettle. (Well, that's what the dealer said)

Guess I am being a little ott really.

But I do want an XJR....

Wimborne Jag Centre have a nice P reg XJR-6 for sale at the moment, they're asking £8,700 for it I think. I'm thinking of selling mine in the Spring and getting back into a TVR.

It needs a good service and the front bushes doing, but apart from that it's in fine fettle for an 84,000 miler. It's a bit different from standard XJRs as it has the lighter 'classic' walnut interior rather than the 'dark' look.

I shall bear yours in mind if my scratch becomes unbearable!!
Saying that, mine has not missed a beat so far, so I would be daft to sell it.

Pretty sure that Jag V8 was originally only available in normally aspirated form, with supercharged version brought out later, so maybe they'd sorted the problem by then.

The XJR came out in 1997 and it too was effected by the nicasil problem as I know one that needed a complete engine change due to the fault and others have been changed too(I asked last time I was at Jaguar).

The nickasil prob with the V8 engine is covered in a previous thread and it seems that Jag did not solve the the prob until the 2000MY cars were introduced.Details can be found atwww.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=85&h=0&t=65990.

The previous generation 6 cylinder XJR's were not affected.
