Ok you drive off and the doors lock.... you see someone you know on the street and stop to pick them up, how do they open the door when its locked???

There is no dash button for the driver to push to let
them in??

Had the car a week now and not given anyone a lift!!!!!

So no button with what looks like a door on it then?

They do unlock if you pull the door handle slightly (but not enough to open).

When I had my XJ8, I found it to be *such* a reliable car that I always unlocked the doors after the car had decided to lock them.

Start car. Move off. Crunch as car decides to lock doors. Second crunch as I open them again.

Never wanted to be locked in an XJ8.

Greg - Solution!

When you stop to give someone a lift, pull the small unlocking tab right above the inner door handle of the driver's door. The central locking mechanism will unlock all of the other doors (you may have to pull the tab twice). After your passanger gets in and you drive off, the doors will lock again...

Hope this helps

Thanks guys for all of your answers however....

I tried the obvious pull of the lock button "twice" but it still will noy open the door... The cars booked into the local Jag dealer on wednesday for them to rectify my "lock in" fault. amongst other small bits and bobs...

Cheers

Sorry Greg. Thought I had it there for you. I know that my wife's has a child safety device that disables central unlocking in the rear doors but I don't think it would have an effect on the front. You could check that though...

Well, the boys at the dealer should put it right for you. Good luck!

With my XJ, you gently pull the drivers handle, so it doesn't open, but disengages the other door locks.

Well my local Jaguar dealer had the car all day today. The "autolocking" problem I had was put down to the drivers door lock assembly, and has been replaced... ALL FIXED!!!

The Water leak has been fixed with a new boot seal. The boot actually raises now when you press the button due to the new seal. It didn't before..

I complained about the gearbox being slow to select drive, I know its a "feature" of the earlier S but I thought I'd ask anyway.

They upgraded the software on the gearbox ECU and it engages better and drives totally different with regards to gear change.

Also they noticed a worn linkage on the "J" gate and the "P" is no longer lit on the shift gate so a complete new J gate and linkage is on order, to be fitted next week.

I must say that I'm very impressed with Jaguar, I never got this kind of service at my Mercedes dealer

And also a BIG Thank You to all of you for your valued help and support.

Regards

Greg
