Daimler double six

Couldn't agree more.
I've had a XJ6 Series 3 (although only a straight 6) and now have a XJR-S V12 and they have both performed faultlessly. What's more the parts are cheap!
adrianrp: Was the Double Six the one they did as a Pillarless Coupe? Now that is one beautifull car.
The Double Six is any Daimler badged XJ V12. There was a Double Six version of the coupe, but I think that only 600 or thereabouts were made.
I've had a rash of Series 2 and 3 XJs, mostly 6 cylinder cars, and I love them. So much car for so little money these days.
I've always fancied an XJR-S, but never driven one. What's it like? Do you have a 5.3 or a 6.0 model?
I see. I didn't think the coupes where that rare though. There's currently a couple being restored by the guy who looks after mine. They really are a bit special.
As for mine; I've got the 6 litre one. There's a pic in my profile here... www.pistonheads.com/members/showCar.asp?carId=8504
It's a fabulous car, probably the best all-rounder I've owned. Cheap enough to insure & maintain and bomb proof build quality.
It's done 90 odd thousand miles and as my mechanic says "...it's only just run in"
I couldn't think of anything better this side of an Aston. :O)
(Which incidentally were produced at the same TWR/Jaguar Sport factory as mine came from and used a lot of the same bits.)

Now that is a lovely motor! According to my Boys Own Bumper Book of Jags, there were 2606 RHD & 3899 LHD 6 cylinder coupes(total 6505); and 604 RHD & 1269 LHD 12 cylinder coupes (total 1873). It doesn't say which proportion were badged as Jaguars or Daimlers.
BTW, I believe production for XJR-s was around 300 5.3 cars & 500 6.0 cars, so yours is just as rare!

Good stats Bruce!
I must admit I haven't seen many around myself and most of them seem to be the pre-facelift models.
There's currently one for sale at www.aruncars.co.uk and a Daimler Double Six.
Go on Adrian - what are you waiting for
