CD Players...........One that occasionally works!!

Anyone have any experience with the Jaguar CD players. I run a ’96 XJR, recently the CD player has started to work intermittently. If the engine is started and the CD button pressed the words “NOT CONT” appear in the radio’s display, otherwise if the radio is on and the CD button pressed, it will not come on and it stays with the radio station.

Is it a connection / cable problem? Or is it a new player?
