I've seen some earlier examples that are the same shape but have "only" 310bhp compared to the 370bhp that the newer ones have.
Does anybody know when xjr's got this 60bhp power hike ?
thx.
Actually, if memory serves, the six-cylinder XJRs were quoted at 325bhp and the torque figures are even closer. Most of the figures for acceleration I've seen are virtually identical - I guess in a car this heavy, a few dozen ponies or pound/feet don't make a big difference.
The big difference between the cars is in the interior. The dash in the two cars is noticeably different.
Otherwise, I don't think there's a lot of difference though personally, I think the six-cylinder engine looks nicer when the bonnet is up.
Also, you'll be able to get a better price on the six because of the age and V8 snobbery.
Been tooling round in one of these this week. It's a '97 car with 161,000 miles on the clock that belonged to a senior member of the car magazine for which I work. The bushes are screwed and I think the gearbox might need some attention, but the straight line speed is ASTONISHING. Wonderful, wonderful car. Subtle too, and capable of beating almost anything away from the lights. Provided that you can stop the torque from tearing up the tarmac that is....
