I was having a discussion with a friend down the pub the other day and I thought that Jaguars on the whole are Supercharged. My friend tells me that only the recent ones are - is this correct and if so whicha re the models which are supercharged?!!

Supercharged "R" models have been around for years as in XJ-R / XK-R etc

Yeah, only the 'R's are charged.

X-type sports(etc) have less chrome, slightly stiffer suspension etc, no HP increase over the standard.

Agree only the R's are supercharged but there was a XJ - R introduced in September 1994 (4.0l) so not only just recent Jags.

Yep, I can confirm what has been said... only the "R" variants are supercharged... but there are other ways to spot them... look at the grilles and bumper strips...

Do X-type sports have stiffer suspension ? I thought they were the same apart from the 17" wheels and a bit less weight (no rear elec windows, less 'jewellery,' simpler aircon etc.

Supposed to be 10% stiffer , not hugely noticable tho.

To my knowledge that was the first ever superchraged Jag - I don't think they'd ever used any form of forced indcution prior to that, and I think they still steer clear of turbochargers.

What was the XJ220..? Wasn't that a V6 turbo jobbie..? (can't remember!)

Doh! I forgot about the XJ200! I think my comments still stand for their production cars :waitstobeshotdowninflames:

There will be a turbo-diesel in the near future (so they can shift some X-types to business users)

Can hardly count the xj220 though, as TWR shafted jag customers by putting in the (turbo 6r4)metro engine.

X-Type Sport has 17" wheels and up rated springs for a stiffer ride, sports seats... pretty sure it'll all be on the jag website!

Sport is a hell of a lot of fun, especially in 3 litre form!

I hope you know a good libel lawyer Rob ! That could all be said to be true, but Jag are still pretty defensive !

XJR started life as supercharged straight six. New "Ford" XJR model had V8 other versions fuel injected.
V8 XKR supercharged engine is similar to the XJR

I think AM messed around with turbo-charging...

in that it had superchargers, not 6 cylinders

Don't think so. Aston Martin favour superchargers as well, AM V8 Vantage 550bhp version was twin supercharged I think, plus DB7 is supercharged.

Not all XJR,s are supercharged. The XJR marque first appeared in XJ40 guise in 1990.It was basically,a sported up XJ40 with sports suspension, bodykit, and a personalised interior, with a few engine enhancements to the AJ6 engine, which carried the XJR badge.
