S Type R Reliability and the Jaguar Extended Warranty ?
Discussion
Mine is 2002 and has nearly 50k on the clock, Jaguar want 1500 quid to extend the warranty for another 12 mths.
My question is, is it worth extending or would an aftermarket warranty ie warranty direct to cover the engine, gearbox suffice ?
I havent had any problems in the twelve months I've had it, what the known things to go wrong with them ?
What would you do ?

Do you feel lucky?
Personal choice in the end? Can you afford not to have it? £1500 in a kitty for if things do go wrong is a pretty good war chest, if nothing happens then you are a lot better off.
50k miles isn't very many for this car, if the 'box goes then just bad luck IMHO.
My vote is NO to the warranty.

Just out of interest I wasn't going to run my '03 Range Rover without a warranty and when the time came to stump up the £1497, I found I could spread the pain over 10 months ineterest free. Maybe Jag offer the same deal through 'Online Finance'??
As with any warranty, read the very small print. If its cheap and too good to be true then they will probably try and shirk any claims.

The JEC offer a warrentee a lot cheaper than that. It won't have the same degree of cover as the Jaguar one but it might be worth looking into. It can be used to cover non Jaguars as well and there is discount for covering multiple cars. I looked at it last year largely to cover the wifes MB which is a car you really do need warrentee on.
I had the same problem with my S type, exactly the same. The renewal price was about £1500 approx.
I had used the jag warrenty in the past and found it to be great, they never tried to weasel out of paying for anything, but I thought it was a bit steep. But in hindsight I have spent a fair bit on repairs this year, bushes, bearings, windscreen wiper motor and last week the power steering pump.
But what saved my bacon was the AA, dont know if anyone else has it, but on my policy they have this Breakdown repair policy. It cost I think about £70 per year, and as long as your car is less than 10yrs old, has less than 100,000 miles and is serviced according to the book they pay out 5 repairs a year to the value of £500 per time ! With an excess of £25.
So this year they have saved me a fortune, waiting on them paying out for the Power sterring pump as I write this. instead of a bill for £480, just paid £25.
They even cover batteries and I think exhausts now ?!
So basically sod the warrenty !
