Snow chains jag x type
Discussion
This reminds me of a colleague years ago who got a brand new XR4x4 just before a big dump of snow. We were due to be on a show stand together and he arrived very late, looking both sheepish and rather pale.
He'd thought
Ha I've got 4WD now, I don't need to worry about a bit on snow.
So he'd pulled off the Motorway onto the slip road at 70 and had promptly come all the way around the corner on the armco.
There wasn't much left of the passenger side of the car.

An AWD X I would prob get some snow tires if I was doing a lot of driving, but if you are just driving to the Alps and back, you will prob just get away with the AWD. (Unless like I mentioned you 'MUST'have chains to proceed) but seeign as the Alps have no snow I wouldn't worry! (Joke!)

With regard to driving in snow, you need tyres that are suitable. P Zeros or similar are fantastic most of the year, but in winter they are not going to cope with ice and snow regardless of whether you have 4wd or not, so you must drive very carefully.
It may be MANDATORY to have and use chains where you are going. Check with the AA / RAC and find out.
Assuming you need chains you need to make sure that chains are available for your X-Type. This is not as stupid a comment as it sounds. When I was responsible for snow chain testing at Jaguar back in the days of X300 we could only fit them onto 16" tyres, if you had P Zeros the suggestion was to buy 16" tyres and chains if needed.
