I have just started looking for a XJR (6 cylinder) and have found one looking like the perfect car, low milage on its second onwer FSH and in all around good condition. The car has not been used for 6 months and was stood outside with a cover over it, the battery was disconnected while it wasnt being used. Now here is the problem, we went out for a spin and after the car had drove about 30 feet the Traction & ABS warning lights illuminated, we pulled over stopped the engine and tried again, but after we drove about the 30 feet these warning lamps cam on.

The owener looked very suprised, I did tend to believe his suprised as he had really looked after the car. Im hoping its something simple like a loose connnecter, I was thinking if one of the speed sensors was not making a good connection then it would wait for the car to move before it generated an error, but I suppose it could be anything. Apart from this issue the cars was exactly whats I was looking for, any suggestions on what it could be?

Does anyone know of anyone (independant Jag ) that could take a look in the Wembley / Harrow area ?

Thanks

Did you keep driving, I've had cars in the past that take a couple of miles to calibrate the ABS/traction and the light just goes out.

worst ways, the n/s/r abs sensor has gone down. this would cause the problem you have.
also check the wheel bearing on that corner at the same time.

Check that the tyres are all the right size. Sounds ridiculous but exactly this happened to me. Correct tyres but wrong size. Did everything to find the problem but only found out when replacing tyres. Spent six months with traction control off and a puzzled look on my face!

Having done a little reasearh of Jag forums, it could just be case of a low battery, often a new battery or charge gets it sorted. This would make sense as the car has been sitting for several months with the battery disconnected.

In thinking its worth the gamble if he drops the price a little, but he was relectant originally.

Thanks

I am 99% certain this is due to low battery.
I'm a member of the xkec.co.uk, and this is a regular error message posted on the forum.
ABS/ traction control has also displayed on my current XKR and previous XK8 usually when the car has been parked for a while. The code always seems to go away after long drive.
I really would not worry too much!

Thanks for everyone's replys, I suspect it was a low battery. Dont need to worry now as I have found another one, which I believe is a better car, definatly a better colour. Just need to find some time to travel the 130 miles to pick her up.
