guys

i have a small company called bespoke luggage that does fitted luggage mainly for classic jags and moving into the aston range, i got talking to my local dealer and is keen for us to design and make it for the new xk8/xkr, do you think there is much of a market for it or is it something that would sit in the show room gathering dust?

Who knows is the answer. I have to say however that the new XK has quite a shallow boot/trunk, which can make it tricky choosing a suitable case to fit without personally trying it out before buying.

So providing it isn't outrageous and overly expensive there maybe a market, but its one thing asking people if they fancy it, its another making them buy it!

Good luck.

Do you have a website? If so I'll post it on the XKEC (XK Enthusiasts Club) forum. I do recall some discussion about possible luggage options on there.

the website is www.bespokeluggage.com i'm also working on the out going xk8/xkr but in many ways it's much harder to do, there is always a balance between getting the best fit with the fewest cases to keep the price down and keeping the sizes pratical, there is no point making case so huge you can't lift them in. The new xk8/xkr is actually much meuch eaiser and will consist of two cases each with the option of two soft bags

I would say, yes, provided that the cost is reasonable, and the luggage will genuinely do the job, not just look pretty

i've done the design for the new xk and will now go and test the mock up before we go to prototype, at the same time i'll go measure up and come up with a plan for the previous model, but it should all be designed and mocked in the next couple of weeks and so it should be ready to order in january. The main advantage of modern cars is they don't vary from car to car so once i've got it to fit one specific model it'll fit all of them, normally with a classic cars we have to make them and try and put them in as many cars to check we didn;t design it for a car that non standardl

sorry i've been away, yes i'll get it finished and should be available early next year, one of the prpblems is figuring out how to get around the space saver/full size wheel differences with the leats number of cases, i have an afternoon at my local jag dealer booked with me going down, testing the trials for the nex xk8/xkr and designing the old ones, i'll keep you informed. Thanks for the feedback

Before I had a full size wheel as a spare (how anyone would wish to use a space saver with 400 BHP even for a few miles) I used to put my suit bag between the spare and the cover. On one tour we did not want to take all the luggage up the hotel rooms each day, one of the evenings there was a black tie dinner but could not find my suit in the boot. Thinking I had left it at one of the other hotels or at home I was getting a bit worried to say the least. At the last minute I suddenly remembered my hidyhole, what a relief.
