Mornin'

I've got 2 issues with my car, that I'm looking for some advice
on. It's a '99 3.0 Auto.

Firstly, the easy one - I think my good old heater valve has given
up. Does anyone know of any aftermarket suppliers (in the UK) for
the valve? Jag want £130 for it.

Secondly, I've got a problem with the J-Gate on the slush 'box.
Using the lever, I can only select upto 3rd on the gate, it won't
push upto 2nd. A few months back, a Jag mechanic told me that one
of the cables had probably bust and that I just need to replace
it. This week I spoke to another dealer about it (thought I'd best
sort it) and they said that there's only one cable on the 'box and
that we shouldn't attempt to remove / re-allign it, because it can
only be refitted by a dealer using a special tool. Has anyone had
this issue before? Does any one know about this special Jag dealer
only cable fitting tool? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

There is no gearbox tool needed.

I have looked at the service manual and it is in section 307-05 under gear cable adjustment.

Having done the job on plenty of occasions, and taught the repairmen in the factory how to do the job, I am fairly confident that there is a communication issue with your dealer.

You might want to explain that they need to remove the centre console cover, whereupon they will find the J gate cable adjustment nuts, and you want them to adjust the cable so that all the gears can be selected.

Gavin - thanks for the advice, that's just what I was after. I'll pull the Jag CD ROM up when I get home and have a look at that section. It sounds like if it's just an issue of adjustment, I could get my father to do that (he's a Porsche independant).

So, is it the case that there is only one cable and not two as dealer number one said?

Thanks,

Mark

One cable runs from the gearbox to the J gate.
