My '99 X308 4.0 litre has used about 0.5L in 2000 miles of driving.

I was wondering how this compares other's cars?

My vehicle is Nikasil liners, but has been 'blown by' and is fighting fit apparently. It's covered just over 88000 miles.

A well timed question......

I calculated my 2000 XJR's long term oil consumption last week (20 months, 30000km of driving).

The result = 2037 miles per litre.

The car has covered 119000km, and has Nikasil liners too. It passed a blow-by test, generates ample oomph in any gear at any time, and is an unquestionably magnificent machine.

I understand that both our readings fall within the normal range but I am curious about others. Please post folks!

I don't wish to worry you, but mine was starting to use a noticeable amount of oil before the timing chain tensioners failed - I don't know exactly how much. But in comparison the new engine which replaced it has used about 0.5 litres in 10,000 miles.

Interesting stuff. Had my timing chains changed a few thousand miles ago.

Any other contributions?
