Hi Folks has anyone had problems with both 12v sockets just stop working at the same time. I was hoping it would just be a fuse thats maybe blown, but not got the manual to hand to check. Everything else seems to be working ok.

Cheers

Have you tried plugging different items in to rule out the plug?

I'll take a look at a schematic at work today and post back.

yep, tried the cigar lighters them selves, and my sat nav cable, and my ipod charger cable in both sockets, none of which work.

Hi desyboy, I got a chance to look at an XJ schematic at work today and it looks as though the fuse for both cigar lighters is #5 in the trunk (boot) fuse box, it should be a 25 Amp. You may need a torch and a magnifying glass to see the numbers as they are small if the fuse box lid doesn't have a map on it.

Both are also grounded on the same stud which is located under the center console on the right side of the transmission tunnel some where behind the J-gate.

Wire colors may be different but the schematic I looked at suggested that B+ would be white with a blue stripe and earth would be black.

The way the circuit looks is the B+ wire that comes off of fuse #5 in the boot fuse box and splits into 2 wires going into the back of each cigar lighter for power, then coming off the back of each cigar lighter is the black earth wire which goes to the ground stud under the center console. The 2 wire connectors at the back of each cigar lighter will be L shaped.

Check the fuse first, make sure you remove it for a visual inspection (a leg broken off, corrosion, Etc) and the next logical place to look would be the earth stud.

Hope I haven't bored you with details and If I can be of any more help, please post back to this thread or Email me through my profile..

P.S.- you sure spell your first name funny....hehe....check my profile.
