Hi All,

I've been thinking of buying a cheap used xj6 or xj8. Go for as low mileage as possible and obviously go for as much SH as i can. So other than the usual - plus i've heard about the nikasil problem on the early XJ8, what should i look out for and is it worth getting one that's 10 years old?

Cheers,

Matt.

Matt - I just found a 1998 XJ8 for £6k, absolutely mint. Had all the stuff done that was in Broadbean's very very useful guide and only has 76k on the clock.

Obviously it's a bit too early for me to report but I think if you are able to confidently go through the service history with a fine tooth comb and see that it's been truly looked after, you should be fine.

XJR - have been scouring autotrader and the classifieds on here today. budget is a bit tight though for an XJR although it is possible to get one for what i want to pay.

i'll read the guide. cheers for that.

XJR is the only car to go for. Eat beans on toast for a few months and stick the outstanding balance on a credit card!

I'll trade up to an XJR after a while, when I can find a mint example for my dough. They do look like stunning cars for the folding. I need to get used to a proper car again first (just gone from a Suzuki Alto to an XJ8!)

I just got a used 98 XJR with 95,000km for 14,000 Canadian dollar (6,500 GBP, 13,000USD), it was kept it in excellent shape and had most of the fixes (tensioner, throttle) except the nikasil problem, but when I called a Jag shop in Vancouver, they told me the problem is too exaggerated and not to bother with it...anyways, just want to let everyone know it is possible to get a 370 horsepower monster for less than a used civic...
