Any "Teccies" out there that can confirm/deny whether there is a service/re-conditioning kit for the pump(2000 S Type V8)Dealer seems to say they think replacement pump only option. Losing fluid from pump seal(we think) but could be hose. Not sure whether to try local fitter or if HAVE to use dealer. Any ideas how difficult to do ? (factory quotes pump fitting time -2 hrs)Note--@ £84 p/h +vat of course !!

Having probs with power steering pump ??

Just had mine replaced last week, £250 pound for the pump. Local specialist charded £60 for fitting, plus VAT.

Apparently all the hose and pump are integral according to the workshop manager at Jag. and have to be replaced as one, a bad design on early ones.

Thanks JP99 for reply- as it happens since I posted I've had mine in & done. Same as you-via independent Jag specialists £250+vat + fitting. Could have been worse- if Steering rack was leaking they cost £750+vat etc. Eeek. Also has both side front bottom ball joints done for MoT (£150+vat +£60 fitting each side) Ah the joys of Jaguar ownership. At least all is well now.

Well glad it turned out ok then. I must admit I had the same thought as you obviousley, that mine might be the rack. WOW I am glad it wasnt

Must admit that was the last thing for mine, seems I have replaced most of the bits on mine, especially the suspension parts. Looks like its getting traded in for another S type, just newer !

But one thing I used was my AA breakdown cover, its like a breakdown warranty, basically it costs £75 a year and covers 5 breakdowns a year up to the value of £500 per time, with an excess of £25 !

Seriousley, it cost me £25 for a new pump and fitted etc !! Get it !
