BlackBerry in an XJ
Discussion
I just took delivery of a new XJ8 - I didn't really expect my BlackBerry to work properly in the car and it doesn't. It links to the car ok and can make and receive calls thru the car but I cannot get the phone book into the car.
Has anybody else tried this and is there a solution? There was a similar thread on BMW a few months back and the problem was solved by buying the latest BlackBerry. Obviously I only want to do this if it is likely to resolve the problem.

Thanks for the help Phil.
The numbers went straight in. It was when I left the car and went back to in about half hour later that they all went again.
I don't mind getting a more up to date BlackBerry (that solved the problem for somebody on the BMW forum) but I don't want to do that only to find the new version won't work either.

Barry,
I couldn't guarantee that the new Blackberry would improve the issue you've got... but it might.
Again, it's not been tested and approved by Jaguar so there is no way of knowing without actually trying it yourself.
Funnily enough, i've just been on the phone to a chap who's got a similiar problem to you, (it wasn't you was it?) There really isn't an awful lot we can do, yet we don't want to fob any customers off and say "it ain't on the list so it won't work mate, off you toddle to get a proper phone". It's going to be very much trial and error until Jaguar pull their fingers out and start testing more phones, more often.

Phill - No it wasn't me on the phone so I know there are at least 2 of us with the same problem.
I have an old Nokia that seems to work OK so I will probably soldier on with that until I can get an answer. Someone somewhere must have tried to connect with the new BlackBerry.
Thanks again for your help & interest.

EURIKA - I just found this at www.jaguarforum.co.uk:-
Don't know if any of you are (un)lucky enough to be blessed with a Blackberry instead of a normal phone by your employers, but if you are, here is some information to help you if you have the built-in X-Type bluetooth kit.
Depending on how old your BB is, will depend on whether it will integrate the phones contacts with the X-Type computer. If like me, you found it did not want to work, the answer appeard to be the software version on the Blackberry itself.
Basically, the BB needs to be running V4.1 or above of the onboard software (you can find this under Options > About). If you are running a release earlier than 4.1, phonebook integration will not work.
If you can either upgrade your BB software yourself or get your IT bods to do it for you to V4.1, you will find things get much better. Under the bluetooth options on the BB, you will find a new option for Address Book Transfer. With this enabled, all you need to is tell the X-Type computer to sync with the BB.
To do this, pair your BB with the car using the command ##3#*# DIAL (the screen will say Discover Me), search for the device with your BB and enter the access code 1313. Also, make sure that on the BB you set the connection to Trusted, this way it will automatically connect.
Now make sure that the BB is connected to the X-Type, and enter ##2#*# DIAL on the phone screen of the X-Type. Now, leave the phone in the car, turn off the ignition and make a cup of tea.
Come back to the car after AT LEAST 6 minutes have elapsed, turn the ignition back on, and on the phone screen wait until the words 'Phone Book Not Ready' have gone, then press MENU and take a look to see if you have an address book.
I have noticed that if you change the address book on the BB in some way, the car seems to forget the list and needs the ##2#*# bit doing again.
If anyone needs help with BB upgrading then let me know and I will try to help you out.
Neil.
Think I will take a chance and buy an new BlackBerry
